The Fun Has Begun 2017

Postby terry08 » Sun Jan 01, 2017 9:31 am

I own every type of cooking utensils known to man. But my favorite cooking method is the Fast & Furious, I mean pressure cooking. Seals in nutrients and flavor, and your finished in under an hour. That is if you have as many cookers as I own. I will only use two today. The Presto Professional, and the Electric Elite Platnium.

The great northen beans will cook 4 minutes.

Cabbage 6 minutes & done

The pork roast is marinating and will go 40 minutes, in the elite.

The corn casserole will go in the oven and take longer than everything else combined. 1 hour.

My wife refuses to have one in the house since her's blew up on her several years ago. It was a miracle no one got hurt. It did a number on the kitchen.

Glenn, I hear this so often. And every time it is caused by user error. Kinda like fire arms, they don't kill people. The person using it does, same with automobiles.
I have been around them all my life and I did see that happen when my mom, tried her first batch of black eyed peas. A pea stuck on the pressure vent, and the kitchen was not a pretty site.
Again user error, she left the pot unattended, a no no back then.
The pots today have safety features to prevent this from happening. And the Electric Elite Platnium is virtually set it and forget it. In fact after the first minute, you don't even know it's on. Never thought I would use one, but after getting it as a gift. I was so wrong. No more watching and timing, it's truly amazing.

Jv it was all but that corn casserole, I got the recipe off one of the Facebook things someone shared. Who ever wrote it doesn't know the difference between casserole and omelet. I knew better when I saw five eggs. But you never know until you try it. If you like a corn omelet, for breakfast. Then by all means go for it, I personally prefer other ingredients in my omelet.

Good looking meal. I own several pressure cookers, but haven't used them much in years, Douglas doesn't care much for things cooked in them. My youngest son bought me a new pressure canner for Christmas.

Ladyhunter, there are a lot of people like Douglas, out there who don't like the flavor of food prepared under pressure.
Studies have shown in taste tests. That they are not used to eating foods that haven't had all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals cooked out of them. All of those things that are healthy for you remain under pressure cooking and do make the food taste different. Nearly all canned goods and jarred foods you buy are cooked under pressure. But have all kinds of additives in them to enhance the flavors. Most restaurants use them extensively. Now with the new electric ones on the market home owner can get the same results as the restaurant's, and with amazing safety features built into the units. So you don't have to worry about blow up.
I personally love every one of mine. But the Electric one I received as a gift. May just keep the others on the shelf.

Terry I use to pressure can a lot, but my canner was so old I quit using it. I still water bath all kinds of stuff and look forward to canning again.
