Anyone have a good smoked turkey recipe?

Postby flipper » Fri Nov 24, 2017 7:23 pm

Just wondering how y'all smoke a turkey. Looking at something simple that works with a MB electric smoker.

Not much to it flipper, I inject with the garlic butter from cajun injector, or Tony's.
Place in the smoker at 270 degrees, and smoke until 165 internal temp. I use apple wood.
Turkey is not my favorite food, and it all tastes like turkey to me. I have tried many ways, with all tasting the same.
Good luck

That sounds good. I wasn’t sure about the temp. I’ve seen lots of different ones used. Thanks!

The one I did the other day, I smoked it two hours. Then moved it to the oven covered with foil and finished at 350 degrees. Game out great, but still a turkey. Lol

Anyone have a good smoked turkey recipe?

Postby flipper » Sun Nov 26, 2017 3:21 pm

Okay, here’s what I ended up doing, and by the way, this was a bird I got about a year ago and never made the time to try it on the smoker.

I brined the bird overnight. Injected pure melted butter all over and then covered the skin with butter, celery salt, and Tony’s. Sprinkled a little extra salt and pepper. Put some celery stalks in the cavity. I preheated the smoker to 260, then put the turkey directly on a rack with a pan for drippings below that had a little water. On the rack below that I put the water pan and filled it with Simply Lemonade (Kroger). Added some hickory and apple chips and went to visit Momma. Seven hours later it was done. I put it in the oven (no heat) to sit until we were ready. That is the best turkey I have ever eaten by far. Terry, I am like you in that I’m not wild about turkey, but this one I had a hard time stopping the nibbling when I deboned it.

Chad, that looks so good. I will try that method in the future since it saves time.
