Good luck at Panther Swamp. Hope you drag one of those monsters out of there.

Welcome Bloodhound!

I have been hunting hard, but nothing but does with fawns. But the first maiden doe or old boney head I see is getting some lead thrown its way. Sorry that I have not been posting more, but I have been working in Houston, TX and driving home on the weekends. There has been to much other stuff to do around this old place that keeps me busy.

Good luck to you DL. At least try to bring me a ham back. :) The last two packs of my deer meat reserve is in the sink getting ready to be cooked tomorrow.

No luck with the bucks on Panther, I did shoot and lose a very nice 8 point. He came through with a smaller 10 point and I flubbed the shot at 18 yards hitting him just forward of the front shoulder and a little high. Arrow only got 4" penetration and I watched him for over 5 minutes after the shot. He seemed more startled than hurt. I backed out and came back the next morning to track and blood fizzled out after 150 yards. I don't think the hit was fatal but still hate to wound one and not recover him. Season is just starting to get good so we've got plenty of time to rattle the cages. :)

Well heck, that's a bummer, but I bet he'll recover. You're right, things are cranking up, especially here in central MS. I expect the points will start adding up fast now.....

Thanks CurlyJack. If you dont have any luck by Feb I still have that place on Hwy 63 and the rut is usually good down that way around then.

DL, Hate to hear about the Panther buck getting away but thats how it goes sometimes. Im sure you will rebound in no time. :)

The only hunt Ive made in Ms was Thanksgiving afternoon with my 13 yo. The deer were feeding early and we blew them out on the way in but still saw a few but it was closer to dark. She passed on a young 8 pt but has her heart set on either a big 8 or big 10 we have had pics of. I just hope she hurry and connects, cause daddy aint allowed to carry a gun until she has killed one. :pray

Much to mama's dismay Ill be checking her out of school at 2 this afternoon for our second hunt. Ill try to give a report tonight. :D

We had a great hunt. Even with it being hot the deer were out feeding before dark. At least the young deer and does were. We saw several young bucks and she passed on a couple of small 8pts. We stayed till it got slam dark trying not to spook all the deer and just as it got dark enough I wouldnt be comfortable with her shooting, in walked a couple of big bodied bucks. I could see good horns on each but couldnt tell if it was the ones she is after. I ll check the cameras later this week and should know then.

I've got the Yazoo City Christmas parade behind me now. (A group of us rode our horses in it, and we looked darn good!) Now I'm ready for some good cold dreary weather this weekend. The bucks are starting to move in this area.

Well better luck next time dl. Guess you didn't get pigs either since you didn't drop my ham LOL.

Yeah bloodhound I may have to take you up on that offer.

On a better note I am through going to Houston to work, so there is more time to hunt.

Wrong answer on the pigs I shot 3 of them at Panther and they're as thick as flies. They seriously need to do something up there. I'd hate to know just how many hogs are on that place.

My time is finally at hand. Two weeks off. Ill work out friday morning and have friends coming from Ga. that night to hunt a few days then I get to do some hunting. The dogs should be out of the woods by the end of next week and the rut is kicking off around here. Hope to add a few points to our score. Anyone else getting to hunt?

Been out looking this morning and I have seen some good signs. Starting to see some scrapes and hooking. So hopefully things will start being better and I can get some points on the board.

They're scraping real good down my way. I checked cameras yesterday and had several bucks on scrapes and food plots. The one I was after when I killed the 7 pt last month is showing up nearly every night. I'm done with the bucks but hopefully one of the kids, wife, or grands can get him.

Nice one! Since you've got 2 submitted already, if you get this one, let Curlyjack have his pic taken with it...... (snicker, snicker)

Hit them all where you hit her and you won't have to follow many blood trails! :) Nice shot!

:D :D That buck is way closer to Curlyjack's house than mine anyway.
For the first time in several years I'm limited on bucks in MS but got a few does and hogs for potential targets. I'd really love for my grandson to get a crack at the buck but I'm not sure if he'll get to make any more hunts with me this year.
