Team Genesis (Team 1)

Postby glenn » Sun Sep 29, 2013 12:43 pm

I just wanted to start a new team thread under our new team name. We are named in honor and memory of Jbullard's son, Genesis (Gen).

I'm not anymore. I used to but health prevents me doing much now. I may borrow a crossbow a couple of times just to get in the woods.

I bow hunted last year but It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to do much of it this time around. Might be able to sneak a couple hunts into my schedule hopefully

I did last year, got my 1st one with a bow. Don't know if I'll make it this year. But maybe.

I will occassionally have access to a crossbow, so I may use it a little. Bruiser, don't worry about your competative nature, I'm the same way. That's the reason I didn't start participating in the contest earlier. I didn't want to kill anything just for points for my team. It has been tempting several times to shoot something a little less than what I normally would, but so far I have restrained myself. I have been fortunate enough each year to kill a couple of decent bucks for the team and hopefully will again this year.

yes, being competitive has has gotten me into trouble more times than I care to remember !!

Sure would be nice to get a mature buck early in the year though, you know, kinda take the pressure off . LOL !!!!

I'm hoping its going to get COLD this year so maybe the big boys will be up moving around trying to stay warm.

I did hunt a couple of times with a crossbow this week. I passed on everything I saw because all the does either had little ones, or were still carrying them and the legal bucks were too young. That's one of the reasons I haven't bow hunted much over the last 10 years.

I see no reason to shoot one with fawns this time of year.

Heck JB, I see them with fawns in December, around my place. It's crazy, how they seem to drop them all year long.

It is hard bow hunting this time of year. I too see no reason to shoot a doe that is with a fawn.
Even though uncle Ted says different !!!! lol .

I thought I was ready to shoot something, so yesterday I borrowed a crossbow and clinbed in a stand. At 5:15 I saw a good buck pass the edge of the plot I was sitting on at about 80 yards. At 5:20 3 walked out at about 40 yards and feed to within 25 yards. It was a young 4 point, probably legal, and 2 does about 70 pounds. I watched them for about 10 minutes before they finally went back from where they came. I was having more fun watching them than I would have had cleaning one, so I chose not to shoot.

At 6:15 I saw a big deer coming out, but I couldn't put any horns on top of her head. A big sway backed doe with 2 spotted deer puppies tagging along. I don't shoot them when they have puppies and definitely don't want to take out one that is producing 2 at a time. Sorry I didn't get us any points, but it will hopefully happen later on.

Well, Ive been the last two Sundays and last Saturday afternoon , but I haven't been able to connect with anything. I've seen a couple of doe , either to small or not within my range. And I saw a nice 4pt that will be a nice deer next year, if he survives this season, the club next to us will shoot him if he wonders over the line.
Perhaps this next weekend my luck will change just a little !!!!!!
