I agree schoolmarm, but a lot more needs to be done. I know killing one makes me feel like I've accomplished something, but the 2, or 3 a year we kill I don't think comes close to number that are reproduced on our place to replace them. I think the population is constantly growing. We all need to work hard to reduce the predator population.

Very interesting read. Makes me rethink those mornings that I let coyotes walk because I didn't want to mess up my mornign deer hunt..

I am thinking that we may be messing up a lot of future hunts with that mentality that we all fall into.
There are very few does on the property I own, but I always have a ton of young bucks. I am thinking the yote population may play a role in this. I think maybe I have the best food source and cover, but that the yotes harass the does with little ones so much that they stay away. The young bucks seem to be aggressive towards the dang things as I have seen them chasing the coyotes. I watched a piar of coyotes circling a doe with two fawns one day on my rifle range......well watched until I could get a get a gun loaded. I wounded both coyotes, I think both fatally.
I am going to get serious about handling these dogs. I am in a great hunting camp right now, but I miss hunting my home place. It just is not a lot of fun to hunt at home knowing that there are only about two deer around that I should shoot. I quit shooting does about 7 years ago on my property and the situation has not improved.
I know just enough to be dangerous.

This year, I have gotten probably a 75%increase in trailcam pics of coyotes. This "may" be because I had my camera under a persimmon tree.
I grew up on a dairy farm. We had a decent population of quail on the farm, then the coyotes moved in and decimated the quail population. Once the quail were almost wiped out, the coyotes seemed to "move on". A few years would go by, and the quail population would rebuild itself. Without fail, once the quail population recovered somewhat, the coyotes would move back in. I noticed this happen several times throughout the years, till the quail disappeared altogether, due to subdivsions/roads combined with the coyotes.

same here. Wish I was a better yokie hunter, but unless I catch one in a field or road I don't get a shot. Been thinking about an electronic call of some kind..

It probably does no good but I shoot them when ever I see them. I hate to mess up a hunt but he better not walk out. Also I shoot every bobcat I see. They willl eat all the little turkeys.

Coyotes are a more suitable target for yalls .270s anyway. The fewer deer the more acorns for squirrels though. I guess I am torn.

I am no longer torn. I have decided that I am pro-coyote.
