Pigeon

Postby jv » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:40 pm

Had this pigeon hanging around the house most of the day Saturday...it had bands on both legs. It would even fly down and walk up in the carport and look in the carport door at us in the house.

Sounds like he needs to refresh his GPS!

When I was a kid we shot pigeons for fun. A Cajun friend always took all of them home to eat!

He is what is known as a blue check homing pigeon. The band on the left leg is a racing band. Someone would want him stopping to linger like that. Probably cost them the race. He may have become disoriented. No way to know how far he had already flown. I will call a friend who still races. Maybe he can tell by the few visible numbers where he homes from.
