Fishing Reels

Postby BIGERN76 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:56 am

Do any of yall have any input on the 2 Lews reels? Im wanting to buy a couple new reels cause the ones I have now are pretty old (and cheap). I just don't have very much casting distance with my 15 year old diawa. I talked to 2 different folks who sell these reels locally and they both told me the only differance is one has more chrome than the other.

I know there are some folks on here who repair and clean reels and others who have alot more knowledge about them than I do. Just looking to find out if its worth the extra $$ for the shiney spool. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ernie

I'm not an expert by any means, but I remember when a 4 or 5 ball bearings was top
of the line. It's crazy with the progress that has happened to the reels just in the last
twenty-five years! They come up with all kinda improvements to make them
Throw better or smoother.
Is the chrome supposed to help with the cast or just looks?
Like you said its not much difference in the two. Either one looks to
be a good reel! I'd go with the cheaper, but I have no experience with Lewis reels.

I've been using old ABU reels, probably 10-15 years old. Last year I bought a new ABU reel, with 7 ballbearings & I think 7:1 ratio.

I have to be aware of which reel I'm using, because I reel it waaaay to fast when using the new one..

I'm a big fan of the Johnny Morrison sig series 10bb from bass pro. They are a lil pricy but are CRAZY smooth. I bought my 1st one at bass pro and the other 2 I have I snagged off eBay and got good deals on them.

If the Lews are like the old ones with the narrow spool, yo better not backlash it. You have no room to work. LOL

I have a older speed spool I loved it for years but now the reel doesn't always engage when You turn the crank and I have no idea how to work on it?I love the new low profile ABU reels and I always have a Shimano!
