What is the big beef over a crossbow

Due to medical reasons I have decided to use crossbow next season you wouldnt belive some of the negative feedback I have gotten from some of my bow huntng aquanticies not going to label them in the friend section I just dont undersand it is ok to take A 300win mag and shoot a yearling for so called herd management but for what reason do not huunt with a crossbow I have nothing to be ashamed of I have taken 70 plus deer with a bow and will continue to hunt with a crossbow I think some of these people are looking for a reason to criticize me I have taken the big buck pot 4years in a row but cant compete with a cross bow so I will have to reevaluate my assocIation with these idiots do you think I am wrong I think I will keep my dues and cut my ties with this bowhunting association sorry had to vent im better now

Steve
You will soon learn that using a crossbow you have handicapped yourself.
I have hunted with them and past 30 yards just don't shoot.
All the hooraa about crossbows is a result of people thinking they are a rifle, and they are not.

Yea jerry I know about the mindset of negative crossbow thought the same mind set goes with some hunters over modern compounslds a bow is a bow. And you have to practice to be proficent and know your limitations do not take questionable shots you owe that to the animal I dont care. How good you an shoot the hardest egg to crack is to get something to shoot within that magic range to be effective with the wepon you happen to be hunting with my limit with any archery equiptment is 25 yards the same will apply when I use the crossbow if it isnot broken no need to fix it

I bet your "friends" probably see how many quality deer you kill with a regular bow, and they are scared to death you will even do better with a crossbow.. Jealousy plain & simple.

Crossbows have been used since the middle ages.. I'd say that trumps any "primitive weapon" your friends are using during the PW season..

Personally, if those folks are shooting a bow with a wheel on it, I would tell them to stick it.

bigsteve, I agree with everyone else. sounds like a bit of snobbery and jealously. it isn't like you just decided to switch for the sake of switching. if they can't understand that, then you've definitely made the correct decision in leaving them behind.

I made the switch last season due to no time to practice with vertical bow. I really like it, but it only has one advantage over a vertical bow in my opinion, that's the fact that it's already drawn.

Due to some health reasons i have been thinking of getting a crossbow myself. I have talked to several people that have one and most all say the same thing...you will love being able to get more time back in the woods but just remember, they are a lot noisier than a compound bow and for the most part don't have the range of a compound.

So i say to you...if you want to hunt with one then hunt with one and pay no attention to what others say. If it gives you more time to spend in the woods enjoying hunting then that is all that matters. When i hunted with a bow i enjoyed it and have not hunted during bow season for several years but will most likely try and be back in the woods this year with a crossbow. Oh and save that money you paying to the Bow Hunters Assoc. and buy you a few more arrows.

jealousy plain and simple..... If we had a rock season I would try to hunt with rocks, the cross bow was made legal by our state and you still have to get the animal in the right spot at the right time... Leaving them idiots behind will make your hunting season a lot more enjoyable... If you are ever going to be down this way during bow season or any season just give me a shout and bring that crossbow, we will have a great hunt

I am personally saddened by the archery hunters that they are so opposed to crossbows. As a long time bow hunter, I remember the gun people getting really pissed when archery was given its own season. And now, the archers are complaining about crossbows. I own a hunting bow and a hunting crossbow. And I can tell you that I get the same excitement when I hit a deer in the lungs shooting with either one. Now, I also gun hunt. And that same feeling comes about me when I pull that trigger. For me, it is all about the hunting. Let people shoot what they want.

Yea I think a little ethics would be good for all we as hunters need to support all legal hunting methods where we hunt that way or not we are under fire every day and are losing ground with changing seasons and weapon requirements just because you might think your way to hunt pleases you it may or may not fit the next guys train of thought support all legal methods of hunting and fishing

I hunt with a crossbow due to age and health. I'm 73 years old. There are more minuses than pluses with a crossbow.

I have no medical or age restrictions. I hunt with a crossbow because I can. It's legal by law. During late summer-early fall when bow hunters should be practicing is my busiest time of year at work. I don't have time to practice enough with a bow to ethically go into the woods and attempt to take an animal. The last thing I want to do is cripple or kill an animal and not recover it. Crossbows require their share of practice but not nearly as much as bows. To each his own. I would love to have time to get back into hunting with a bow, but for now my crossbow legally gets me some extra time in the woods. There's also the plus that I have yet to be busted at half-draw! Carry on bigsteve...don't let morons rent any space in your mind.

If you are going to hunt with a crossbow during archery season you might as well use a 30-06 during primitive weapon seasons :drool

I could not care less who hunts with what as long as they are legal and it makes them happy. My only issue is when people who are to lazy to practice with a vertical tell me that it is just as hard to shoot a cross bow. Then I have to throw my flag. ::0

BIGERN, I gave up the bow years ago when I couldn't lick my case of target panic.
Went from practice at tennis balls to "Can't hit a Volkswagon". :bash:
I'm thinking about a crossbow but just have not made up my mind yet.
