Made a little run this morning

Postby rcbain » Sat May 31, 2014 9:18 am

Met up with Matador up around the Reservoir this morning. Hunted Tap and his female KeeKee. We made several trees, but only found one daytime coon. No squirrels, but oh well. The video is from the first tree.

They do ok, but we try to go ahead and get in to the trees. We went early this morning, and didn't hunt for too long. Don't hunt very long during summer coon season either.

As bad as I want to do it, I can't make myself get out there this time of year. I used to run my rabbit dogs all summer and had several get bitten by snakes. We saved most of them but the last one that died was one of those special dogs and I quit after that. Where I hunt now is also infested with rattle snakes. Shiloh is part of the family and i won't take the chance with her. She does tree constantly in the yard and I will take her to the park on occasion, but other than that she is done until fall. I hate it but I can't do it.

I'm glad you got to make a trip and had a good time. I know Tap had fun too.

I've been fortunate with my dogs so far. I have only seen two snakes since I've had dogs, one in the middle of october, and another in the first part of november.

Don't get me wrong Carl, what you are doing running him year around is what you need to do to have the best dog you can. We just have so many rattle snakes I'm not sure mine is smart enough to back away from one. She is too fearless for her own good. This is common for us. We kill several every year and most of them are big. And by the way, the one on the left had a whole squirrel in him.
