Put my hands on a cool 308 yesterday

Postby hubtech » Tue Sep 09, 2014 10:48 am

Have any of you guys shot the Ruger Gunsight Scout yet? It looks like it'd make a neat "stalker" and seems to be pretty accurate up to 300 yards from reviews. Any experience with this fella? Good?Bad?Ugly?

Check it out!

I'm looking for a hunting rifle. I really like that 308, but i dont know if it fits the bill. I have to trust reviews and listen to you folk cause i just dont have the experience with firearms to "trust myself". we're going to have some longer shots this year, 250+ yard possibilities. .270, 308, 30-06? I hear the .270 will be the fastest/flattest. what to do what to do

I really like the looks of the old Ruger Number Seven and the Model 77 , IMO that is how a hunting rifle should look....

Do you reload? If you go with .308, you need to keep in mind that ammo may be harder to find.

Personally, I love the .270 & 130 sierra bullet, but that's pretty much all I have ever hunted deer with. Can't ever go wrong with 30-06. I would be looking more at workmanship of rifle instead of caliber.

If your talking about bolt actions:
Browning Abolt would be my #1 choice.. I love mine.
Remington 700 is tried & true..
Tikka
Kimber Montanna

Lots of folks like the TC Encore. Big plus there is being able to switch barrels

I have a m77 Hawkeye 7mm-08 Ruger that I love but after killing a couple of deer with I went back to my Rem. 700 LTR .223. WE killed 6 with it last year with 6 shots I know that there are people who think a , 223 is too small for whitetails but if you can shoot it well it's plenty of gun. If you want a 30 cal. gun a 308 or a 30-06 are both fine choices but like someone said before ammo is easier to get for the 30-06.IMO find a gun you like and don't skimp on the scope. Good luck on finding a smokepole!

When did .308 ammo get hard to find?
