Y'all Must Be

Postby jbullard1 » Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:22 pm

A lot tougher than me.
My 30-06 shooting 168 gr hand loads are kicking my azz as I try to dial in the perfect powder/bullet combo for a 500 yard shot.
I am getting 3" groups at 300 yards right now and will take a couple days for shoulder to recoup.

I can only imagine what it would be like with one of the magnum calibers.
I may need to buy the Remington M-40 that weighs in at around 11# fully equipped.

Heck jb, you can't even do the chrome pole without brusing yourself. What do you expect the rifle to do? Pat your old butt gently. I don't think so.

Love the Axis 270, it's a cheap price rifle, but after the trigger job it shoots like any high end rifle. All I need for hunting. Might let booger, glass bed the stock after season ends.
I understand that Savage will offer it with the accu trigger next year.
I stand corrected. It's already here on the Axis XP 289.00.

No Greg, I was going to do that and talked to a lot of knowledgeable people who have. I opted to take it to a great gunsmith. He filed the sear down to get 2 1/2 pounds. Cost was $ 60.00. Then I realized Savage, had the Axis XP with the accu trigger for twenty dollars more. Oh well, I am very happy with performance, and loving it.

Another words, I paid $269.00 & could have got the accu trigger for $289.00. After mail in rebate.

Jb, I used one while attending college at South Vietnam University. One fine weapon. But at my age, the 14.58 lbs. Is more than I care lug around in the woods.

I went to lowes over the weekend, bought about $3.00 in screws/springs to replace the heavy spring that was in my son's axis.. I also put a set screw in to prevent trigger overtravel. I was amazed at how much that shrunk the groups. I was still too scared to polish the sear, afraid I'll take too much off.. I think the overtravel affected his accuracy more than anything

Anyway we are extremely pleased with it now ..

It's amazing what the trigger pull can do as far as accuracy is concerned. I personally would like it to be about 1 1/2 pounds & bogger could have gotten that by adding a new spring after filing the sear. Being a licensed ffl dealer & gunsmith, he won't do over the counter fix. I appreciate his honesty and understand his insurance & licensing issues. I have talked to many folks who have done just what you did and they have been very pleased with the results. I just did not feel comfortable doing it myself.
Good Hunting & Good Shooting Greg.
