American Bald Eagle

I had to make a service call this morning, Honey Bee went with me and brought my camera.
The camera isn't that great but I several pictures of this nesting pair within 200 yards of a major highway.
I'll bet Ironwook would have loved to have his camera and been with me I know I wished he was.

That's fantastic Jerry, I know Ironwood, would have loved getting photos of them. He is greatly missed.

Good picture.....I have seen a couple around here in the last few weeks but have not been able to get a good chance to take a picture.

And so close to me, Honey Bee and I had such an adrenaline rush just taking the pictures from the highway. I had traffic blocked in one lane and I'm sure some people thought I was crazy on my knee with a camera taking pictures of a tree

It's late enough in the nesting season for Florida strain Bald Eagles to already have hatchlings. Make want to keep a close eye on that nest. May see a young one peeping over the edge in a month or two.

Wish it was closer to here. I had a nest of eagles around here, but it fell apart during a bad snow storm about 5 or 6 years ago. Even though the pair is still around, I don't know where they are nesting now.

Got a picture of these two back in Sept. they where about 400 yards or so off and I did not have my big lens with me at the time. They where about a mile or so from the house.

How do you know it's not a Canadian or Mexican Bald Eagle just passing thru our open borders?

Without looking it up there are two types of bald eagles. The Northern type which are the larger birds and the Southern type which are a little smaller, but still very large. Of these two types there are five sub species. All of these subspecies are American Bald Eagles. The Northern type migrate with large numbers coming down the Mississippi River every winter. The largest numbers of these fly as far south as the locks close to the Quad Cities.

We could get some of these migrant birds down here but if we did they would fly back up to nest up north. Nesting Eagles in south and central Mississippi are likely of the Florida strain. I guess it's anyone's guess what variety the ones in north Mississippi are.

I love seeing the pic! We saw some eagles last year while boating on the reservoir at Meridian. We would be out on the boat and we would see them flying around the lake.

They are beautiful majestic birds no doubt.

Those are great! I would love to find a location to photograph them. A coworker said they saw one at Lake Caroline near Madison. That would be a great challenge. They truly are majestic.
