rat shot

Postby sidog » Mon Jun 15, 2015 2:18 pm

30' shot with 22 mag #12 rat shot 1/8 oz cci. 6 1/2 " barell revolver. Is this good, average or poor? I have never tried rat shot from my 22 mag but considering carrying for snake protection. Largest circle on target is 5 1/2" dia.

It looks pretty good to me. Rifling spins the shot out from center really fast. I used to load quite a few shot shells for .38/.357 and 44 mag. They are close range rounds for sure.

I know for snakes I probably won't be shooting that far.

Looks like a good grouping to me at 30 ft.
I been trying to find some for a .40 s/w but they are hard to find.

I used to shoot rat shot out of a .357 years ago but I haven't had a revolver in a long time so I haven't really thought about them. Do semi autos cycle shot shells ok ? If so can you get them in 9mm?

I shot a rattlesnake once with rat shot from my 357 at about 8 feet. I'm glad I wasn't closer. All I did was make him mad. He struck a small stump beside him about a dozen times while I was running. At least that is the report my brother-in-law who was standing about 20 yards away gave 15 minutes later when he quit laughing. I didn't see the humor though. That hollow point did the trick.
