7mm-08 100 grn
I just bought a set of dies for my 7mm-08 and 100 100grain Sierra varminter hollow points. I've never shot anything smaller than 120 grains and I'm just curious as to how well it will shoot them? I've found load data that claim to get 3400fps muzzle velocity. Anyone ever try these? My son in law loaded 110s for his .308 and it loves them so I'm optimistic.

A pic of my sweet little 7mm08. I put the full aluminum bedding block Hogue stock and the 6x18x44 Redfield revenge scope on it and for a cheap scope I am very pleased . The rifle is a Ruger M77 Hawkeye and it's got a sweet trigger thanks to my favorite gunsmith. I've never been much on low end optics but my gunsmith told me that he's got big guns with thousands of rounds through them that have stayed put and they have the same warranty as a Leopold.

I've shot factory load Remington .270 100grain for years and killed a ton of deer and hogs with them. If I can work up a load for the 7mm-08 that's accurate and runs 3200fps or better I will deer hunt with them with no hesitation. I quit hunting with big guns years ago and I've probably killed 30+ deer wit my .222 , 223 shooting 55 grain Winchester silver tip ballistic supreme ammo. The place I was getting the Remington .270 100grains quit getting them and I never see them anymore? I got the 7mm-08 for wife and kids who doesn't feel comfortable shooting deer in the neck or head and I won't let fhem shoot them behind the front leg with the .223, .222.

I've always heard the 140 grain is the "go to" bullet for 7mm-08's.... but that doesn't mean the 100 grain won't do the trick

I've been shooting handloaded 120 grain Barnes ttx and my gun likes them but I'm all about the speed kills ! I cant remember how fast the 120s are running but 43 grains of RL15 scoots them along pretty good and the recoil is light for Women and kids.

Me personally, I would stick with the 120g TTSXs . I started loading those last year for my 280 and dont think I will ever go back to the 140s again. Atleast not for whitetail.

I hunt with my .223 most of the time but I've had good results with the 120 barnes ttx in th 7mm-08. When I first got this gun I killed a few with it just to try it out. I've smoked some hogs with it too.

You ever tried Federal Fusion 120s ? My Ruger shoots them good for factory loads.

I have not. I have 2 different 280s that I have been reloading for some 25 years atleast. 1 has never had a factory load run through it. I have shot some fusions out of my 300 Win Mag which did pretty good though. I guess I am just hooked on copper

I finally got around to loading some 100 grain hollow points for my 7mm-08. I hope it will like one of the loads and if so I will load a bunch more. Im interested in seeing what they will do to a nanny's noggin?
