Before bow hunting was cool

Image old memories from long ago in the 80s before bow hunting was cool a bunch of stupid guys with a stick and string
When any deer with a bow was earned populations were a lot smaller than today and any buck was shot on Sight

I actually started bow hunting deer around 1965 it was a family thing we hunted rabbits before that but deer hunting with a bow was not allowed we hunted a lot different than bowhunting as we know it today we made man drives or stalking.and was not very productive it took me 11 years to take my first bow kill and it was out of a homemade treestand a small spike does were not legal you were only allowed 1 buck there have been many memories since then but I can remember every one they are all special to me I see more deer in a day now than I saw in a whole season then I still love the rush as I did then even if my quarry is a doe or a big buck bow hunting is the ultimate sport

It just dawned on me, that the 80's are considered "old"

I can remember when someone killed a buck, any buck, it was "news". People had their picture put in the desoto county tribune, and all hunters knew about it.. I can remember my uncle taking me to see a spike that someone had killed :)

I can remember when I started bow hunting, mine was also a Ben Pearson recurve andman that thing would eat my arm up,, 1979, my first compound was a borroewed wart hog(I think that's what it was).. I saved money up from my summer jobs to buy my first compound Bear Whitetail II from Howard Brothers on Ellis avenue I thought I was in tall cotton with that old bow

My first compound was a Whitetail 11 and then on to PSE but can't which one it was, then I went to the High Country Sniper that I hunted with for several years...I loved that bow. Been thinking of getting a Cross Bow so I can get back in to archery hunting but just don't know that much about them.

Keep at it and it will happen there's nothing like the rush of a bow kill learn from your mistakes have faith in your ability listen to hunters that are successful regulary don't listen to tv hunters most of them are trying to sell a product not help you kill a deer in the real world just enjoy God's gift to us and remember keep the wind on the end of your nose

hubtech, listen to bigsteve I imagine he has killed more deer with a bow than anyone else on here and knows what he is talking about. Like he said it will happen one day and if you are like me you will have the shakes just like it was the first one you ever took....just have fun and enjoy yourself, always pay attention to your set up and learn from your mistakes.

I don't use commercial ground blinds I will hunt out of natural blinds I hunt out of 1 hay bail blind we made out of concrete wire on my buddy's place in his hay field I guess an established blind where the deer get use to it being there is ok I haven't had much luck setting up in the woods in New places may work for some but not for me I am a treestand beliver 90% of my hunting is from a climbing stand I like to hunt just off the plot I find where the deer are comming in and set up down wind of the trail

Just don't rush it. It seems like mine was that age only a couple of years ago. He's now 25. Slow down and enjoy it.

Yep.. Because if he turns out to be a hunter, you will immediately loose all your best stands because he will be hunting in them. Your hunting stuff will tend to disappear.. You will spend all your money on stuff for him :)

Hey sounds great to me! We are already looking for a good camo recliner for him for the camp. Should be sitting up on his own by season, or pretty close. Broke the bow out today, shooting good and straight 10 to 40.

I remember starting out with a 45# Pearson recurve with those brown clamp on pieces that formed a quiver with exposed bear broadheads sure didn't want to trip over something carrying that. Then moved on to Bear Polar LTD, Jennings Shhoting Star, Jen T Star, Bear Delta V, Grizzly, Golden a Eagle Hunter, geez and more I don't remember I owned a shop back then so got to play with lots of them. I am glad to see more people involved today a wonderful sport and adds to our ranks when it's time to vote or fight the anti's

Hubtech he is precious. He needs some cute camo clothing! LOL
I started bow hunting later than most people. I have only been bow hunting about 8 years or so. I started with a youth Black Bear that my son had used in shooting sports years before. I was lucky enough to have a good friend that is an avid bow hunter that taught me so much. I bought my Martin about 5 years ago, and I am staying with it. I enjoy being in the woods bow hunting and will continue as long as I am able.
