What Happened?

Postby glenn » Fri Oct 16, 2015 6:11 am

No one wants to talk. Did everyone give up this early in the season? I know someone out there has been hunting. Speak up please. I am bored and need something to read and talk about. Help a poor, hunting deprived, rain deprived guy out. Give me SOMETHING!!!

It has been a little quitter the past few days.....I don't bow hunt so I'm waiting on November 9th for the special primitive season. Started working on another shooting house yesterday and going to try and get it finished in the next couple days.

I've only hunted 1 afternoon so far. My son did kill a pretty decent 7 point on the 6th. Since they cut me open 2 years ago from my sternum to below my navel after my gall bladder ruptured, I have not been able to shoot my compound, so I use a crossbow. It's just not the same.

Terry, I'm fine. I was impatient with the healing process and started doing more than I should have too soon. As a result I have a hernia about the size of a tennis ball. Basically I have the choice of not doing anything to make it worse, or get cut on again to fix it. I've been cut on enough so I will put that off as long as possible. Thanks for the concern.

Yea you are right Glenn the crossbow just isn't the same as a vertical bow it was ok but I much prefer my compound I am amazed how well the #45 model I'm shooting preformes I have. gotten pass throughes. On all 4 deer I have taken with it congrads to your son any deer with a bow is a trophy and a buck is a bonus

Thanks everyone. He has gotten to be very successful with his bow in recent years. The turning point for him was when he started hunting bow setups, not gun setups. This deer was the longest shot he has taken in several years, 27 yards. That was as far as he could see. You cannot shoot too far if you cannot see too far. One of his kills last year was at 7 yards.

don't bowhunt because by the time gun season/rut starts, kind of get tired of hunting and loose interest/it also adds a lot of pressure to the deer when long tracking jobs have to be made...that's just my opinion.....also it is VERY expensive to get antivenom treatments/hospital expenses...

i've been at it, just not seeing deer consistently. I have two spike (one about 3 inches, and one about 9 inches) and a button buck that come through every day, and a doe with a fawn, but that is literally all I am seeing. I found a huge rub last week. Wind has been killing me the stand that I hunted last year that was successful requires some winds from the south/southwest and I keep getting winds from the north!

I know what you mean. I set up 1 stand that is ok for any wind except a northeast one. There is a heavily used trail that comes between a steep ridge point and a high bank on a creek bed into a hardwood flat. Except for opening day, every chance I get to hunt the wind is, yeah you guessed it, out of the northeast.

Waiting for gun season and rain. Been busy at work and also trying to sell my Street Glide so I can buy a Tri Glide Ultra. Then there is this big beautiful palomino AQHA gelding that I bought. He and I can't bond so I'm trying to get him sold. Just a lot of irons in the fire, but I think it's going to settle down soon. Except at work. We opened up our other two operating rooms and are doing outpatient total hips and knees in addition to all the other orthopedic procedures.
Looks like several folks have been nicely successful despite the hot dry weather. Congrats to all!
