I sprouted 22 dwarf chinkipin oak from seed in 3 gallon pots and since we finally got moisture back in the ground I planted some of them last weekend. I didn't have anything to put around them to protect them so I figured I'd try some tomato rings over them to see how that works for now.

There is no one tree better than the other. Diversity is what you want. Plant a selection of oaks that is good for your area. Soft mast trees can also make it more attractive, I would recommend hard pears, get different types as the bare fruit at different times.

As for quick producing acorns, plant sawtooth and water oaks. Plant nutalls and white oaks also.

If you hunt out of a climber plant some pine trees here and there or gum trees as you will be able to hunt out of these trees first.

Thanks, but I was looking for the variety of pear trees. Do you have to call them for those?

I got my pear trees at a local nursury and the deer pears I ordered from native nursury.

Most local nursury should have the pear trees.

Well I got my trees pruned, fertilized, and cleaned around all my fruit trees in cages.
I planted some more oaks, dunstan chestnuts, dolgo crabapple, hood pear, and pinapplepear this year.
I'm ready to see the growth of my 5 yr old trees this year.

I had acorns on sawtooth and dwarf chinkipin trees last year.

I had ants build in one of my tree tubes, but it didn't kill the seedling.

I had the top die on this Moonglow pear tree so I cut the dead wood back and I think it's gonna do fine.

This is one of my Nuttall trees from my first group of tree planting. I planted them on the creek bottom and they are growing fast! This was a small container grown seedling probably one year old or so when I planted it.
Most of the nut all I planted was bare root seedlings

They are looking really good, and good survival rate. It's just that when it gets time for snakes to be out ....that's when I don't go walking in and looking at all the spots. I kinda stay near the cleaned areas like my fruit orchard or my sawtooth orchards. Lol.......I hate snakes!

Well....I lost all the photos with photobucket... that sucks.
I planted some mulberry trees last week in my home orchard. And been pruning trees.
I have to get some pear trees and fig trees for my new orchard at home. The trees planted there are growing a lot faster than I have seen at my other place. My new place used to be horse farm and has a lot better ground. A lot of the fruit trees I planted last year has doubled in size. So far so good!

I was at my place the other weekend and it's amazing how much everything has come along with growth. Nearly every sawtooth tree produces now and I don't think it will be many years before the water oaks and Nuttall start. I don't do too much to this property anymore except buchhogg and a little pruning.
The orchard at the house is looking good and I'm really proud of my muscadine vines. These are first muscadines I've every fooled with.
