6.5 Grendel
Why would any normal thinking man dump this kind of money into a rifle.
Shilen barrel/bolt $495.00
Ergo stock , $195.00
Bolt carrier group 221.00
Vltor stripped upper, 205.00
Ambi Charging handle 85.00
Vortex PST 4 x 16 x 50 scope 699.99
Vortex mount 99.99
Yankee Hill free float extended handguard 205.00
Timeny Trigger group 195.00
Not counting the Spikes stripped lower , reloading dies, brass
Yes I am building a 800 yard hunting rifle based on the AR-15 platform
Am I stupid?

I love precision long range shooting but it is costly.

The question you should be asking is what will be the return on investment in the long run for this purchase?
If you use this rifle for 5 or 10 years, what would be the resale value be? If you can get back 90%, then the cost would be 10% of what you have paid. Right now, you can't even get $5.00 a year for a secure cash investment of that amount, so you may as well invest it in a gun. Who knows, the value of the gun may actually go up.
If the value goes up or stays even, then your real cost of the rifle is just the cost of your ammunition. That would not matter because you would probably spend the same amount no matter if you used it in this rifle or the one you are using now.

Return on investment? no

Re: 6.5 Grendel
I did a few changes and still waiting in the mounts for the scope.
Scope is here but I don'thave the 30mm mount yet so I put a Nikon 2 x 7 on it just for effect
May have to take it back apart to get everything Ceracoated in Flat Dark Earth

That's a fine gun! Out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, roughly what kind of money do you have in it?

Re: 6.5 Grendel
This is one sweet shooting rifle. Just spent 20 minutes shooting it 4 times.
Shoot one time, pull bolt clean barrel, adjust scope settings. let barrel cool
Repeat 3 more times.
Will work on 100 yards tomorrow some time.
Chadbragg you need to try this rifle

Thanks Terry. You have to realize that was 3 weeks ago. I have a hard time remembering what happened 3 hours ago. It's still a sweet looking gun!
