Great Nephew's First

Postby glenn » Sun Mar 20, 2016 6:47 pm

My son has been trying for several years to get my great nephew a turkey. They have only gotten to hunt together a couple of times a year and there have been a lot of interesting hunts they have gone on, but none have produced a bird until today. He is proud to finally break the ice.

They made their second hunt of the year together this morning. They had one gobble at daylight, so they moved in closer to set up. As they were about to sit down the gobbler pitched down on top of them. A load of heavy shot greeted him to provide a permanent dirt nap. 2 hunts together, 2 birds.

Thanks again everyone. Dustin, my son, has always enjoyed teaching kids and helping them be successful with their hunting. As I've said before, he is the one that got me involved with the handicapped hunts. I think he was a sophomore in high school when he started calling turkeys for other people and had good success. This was one of those cases that had been frustrating him because he could help others kill turkeys, but could never get things to come together for his cousin. They had been successful in everything else they went after, but the turkey jinx was hard to break. They are both happy it is broken now.
