I love how you experiment and try new things. My family is not real open to new things to eat most of the time.

Ladyhunter, I really don't experiment that much. But will try and improve on a recipe now and then. I have given up on most Internet recipes, there not for me. This cabbage and ham soup is an old family favorite. I decided to use Conecuh Sausage instead, also changed a couple of things. Sherrie, made me write down the recipe for her to save.

CAJUN CABBAGE AND SAUSAGE SOUP

INGREDIENTS :

1/8 Cup Canola oil
1/8 Cup Bacon Grease
1 lb Conecuh Sausage Hickory Smoked
1 Head Medium Cabbage rough chopped
1 medium onion quartered
4 or 5 Little Sweeties mini bell peppers sliced
1 medium green bell pepper sliced
1 can chicken stock plus 1/2 cup of water
Tony's cajun season to taste
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 cup of water mixed with 1 Tbls corn starch.

Directions :
In a cast iron Dutch oven, heat the oil and grease.
Add the onion, and bell pepper, and saute for a couple of minutes.
Add the sausage, a couple shakes of salt and pepper and saute just until the sausage browns a little.
Add the cabbage, broth and water, sprinkle on some Tony's, stir then cover and simmer.
Check and stir every 10 minutes until cabbage is wilted to your likeness.
Add a little more Tony's, and red pepper flakes. Let simmer for a few minutes.
Mix 1/4 cup water with 1 Tbls corn starch and simmer until thickened.

Note :
The water and corn starch is optional. If you just like a thin liquid, then omit the corn starch slurry.
