second tom and depressing success of third tom

Postby loner » Sun Apr 24, 2016 9:35 am

i started to toss my season as far as posting my success as it has turned out but decided to tell my hard luck story in case the rest of you can relate.being 74 i still have my legs and wit but eyes are failing and my distance judgement[patience] is not improved.there were 4 toms in the area i hunt and i took one on the 4th day of the season and one the next day which was a text book hunt.the second week of the season, i called the third bird into the same place but shot too far and missed.this was devastating and affected my confidence and my experience knowing my mistake.now the two toms i hunt are old birds, hard hunted on adjoining properties and also educated by myself with little or no gobbling.this could be the end of my streak of limit success.however,i am blessed to be out there 6 days a week to enjoy the journey.

I can relate Loner. I've worked nearly all of the season but I messed up on one too. I had one gobbling across a creek and decided to go a little closer and when I saw him he saw me. I've still got some season left but don't know if I will be able to hunt? If I wind up with only one this year it will be the first time in many years. That second Tom looks like a good one.

Loner, I think you had a very blessed and successful season...you still git a few days for that third bird.
