Made my first weekend hunt

Postby triple_duece » Sun Nov 27, 2016 11:58 am

Got to the camp thanksgiving afternoon. Went to bait up and sit and see what's moving. Pretty uneventful evening with only a rabbit seen.

Went back to camp and my boy and his friend were bowhunting the wma and didn't see anything. We made plans to hunt the wma for the either sex weekend.

Got up early and began walking through head high palmettos for 3/4 of a mile. We all set up and waited for daybreak. Daybreak came, sun rise came and never heard a shot. 8 shots was heard by 10 am and we got down and headed to the truck. Ate lunch and boys was ready to get back after it. My son went to a old spot we used to hunt on youth weekend. They hunted that evening and didn't see any deer but plenty of fresh sign. I hunted my property and this is all I seen. Image

Next morning we hunted same spots as the evening before but this time it was different. Got in my stand and as daylight broke I could see 3 does on the plot. I was watching them and one would look the other way every now and then. Soon a buck came walking out and I studied him for about ten minutes before deciding to shoot. He looked 3.5 with not much for horns. A shot in the pump station and I was standing over him later. ImageImage

The boys came out of the wma to help me load my buck and left to hunt the rest of the day. I cleaned my buck and watched some football and as it was getting close to shooting times my boy text me saying he shot a spike and his friend shot a doe. I started a fire and waited for them to check their deer in and make it to the camp. Image

We hunted same spots Sunday morning with none of us seeing a hair. It was a great weekend and great memories made.

That's an awesome story! You should start a journal here on the forum. Congrats on the deer. Perseverance paid off.

Is there a member blog page or are you suggesting a hunting journal thread?

on the forum index, if you look under hunting, and then all the way to the bottom there is a thread for hunting journals. You need to pm gtk to get one set up. Nice buck from last year.

Congratulations! That's a good one. I tried get gtk to set up a journal for me, but he wouldn't do it. He said I lie too much. Just kidding. That really is a great story and a nice mount.

Thanks everyone. Yes seeing a bear one time is awesome. Seeing ten bears a hunt is frustrating. Not being able to do anything about the overgrown coons is aggravating to be polite about.

Here is a video after I killed my buck and dragged it to the stand while I waited for my boys to come get me w my Atv. I do say sob in my video so if it offends I will remove it. I get pretty frustrated dealing w the bears. He came down my lane and walked up to my stand to get him something to eat.... not today!

Omg. .. I would have been shouting and cussing. I figure it is just a matter of time until the bears are everywhere.
