Show of force?

Postby patinlouisiana » Mon Nov 28, 2016 8:10 pm

I was driving to my evening stand Sunday morning and I was passed by 6 G.W. trucks with 2-3 wardens in each one. I was sure tempted to turn around and see where they were heading on this one lane gravel road?

I think in almost 40 years I have only been checked 1 or 2 times.
We had a local GW I think Moebly might have been his name that would stop at the gate and shoot the breeze with us. Have not seen him in years. I asked him why such a small badge on such a big man?
"Makes a smaller target" was the reply I got. I recall another time we were hanging out at the gate and there was a shot just up the road. We all walked up there to see what they got. They said the kid missed a nice buck. so we went back to the gate. The GW said he would come back tonight and arrest them for an illegal deer. I aks him what made him doubt their story? He said there was a drop of blood on his boot! :nono: :nono: :nono:

Most of the GW's are good people and will go out of their way to help. I never had a problem with any of them. Now there was one manager on Malmaison Mr. Taylor who was checking license one day and we had known each other for many years and when he got to me I said Mr. Taylor I don't even know if I got any license or not but I showed them to him and ever since that day if he saw me he was going to check my license and then just smile and say have a good day Jimmy.

I've always has positive experiences with GW , but I always go by the books. They just doing their jobs and most are good at it. I had one GW back years ago walk up under my stand in Alabama while I was bow hunting and ask to see my license. He just asked me to drop it down to him and checked it and told me he would leave it at the base of the tree. Thought it was weird that he didn't want me to climb down but I did anyway since he messed up my hunt. Said he thought I had corn out because someone in the club reported that a guy was hunting over it. Guess the other member was jealous that I killed two bucks before him and thought I was baiting which I wasn't. That's the only time ever that I had a GW come in the woods to check me.
