Two pieces of information I was given as a young Hunter were simple. If you never shoot, you will never kill a deer and if he can move, he can run. Shoot him again.

When it's this cold and windy make a pot of chilli and get a blanket and watch football and wait on better weather

A big +100 on the "if he can move, he can run". I lost probably one of the biggest deer I ever saw, becuase I was too excited.. I shot, he hit the ground like a "sack of taters". I immediately start down the ladder & look up to see the deer standing there.. He got his wits about him, and left the county before I could get back in the stand & get another in him..

Now, after I shoot, I always wait a few minutes ready to send another round down the barrel if it even so much as twitches.
