Ben has been hunting stands alone this year as he is 14 now. He had killed several does, and got his first buck, a 3 point here on the farm.
But the story of the 8 point is a story of the hunt. We belong to a big dog club that borders government land. We use gps tracking collars and system. We usually know within yards where our dogs are. Ben and Douglas were trying to catch dogs. Dallas was on the phone telling them they should be right off the power line but they couldn't see or hear them. Ben walked out onto the power line to look over the next hill for them. He walked up on this buck bedded up in the edge of the woods .
He got excited but got a shot off. Douglas ran where he was but didn't even have a gun. But they found blood, so they called us to come bring a blood dog. We tracked the deer a bit but there wasn't much blood, so we turned two blueticks on him. They didn't go far, and bayed down close to a creek. Dallas took Ben and went in to them and the dogs had the deer bayed in the creek. Ben finished him off. We were all so excited for him. Everyone gathered up to look see, hear the story. The deer was poor and had been injured at some point.
He looked like he had been hit by a vehicle.
We are getting him mounted for him.
