up to you while hunting from the ground??? 2 season ago called up a spike, one second heard it and then about 5 seconds later the deer was literally 2 feet from my face in my lap, second closest was last season, called up a 2.5 year old 8 point i was sitting on one side of a huge oak tree, and by the time i heard it, it was already close, and i looked around the tree, almost broke my neck doing so, and it was on the other side of tree directly behind me looking the other way, he never saw me or anything, he just walked off, thats proof right there deer can pinpoint a exact location of a noise! one more off topic incident i can think of was, i was walking to my stand one evening, got to stand, and was just about climb up and heard some deer off to my right chasing, so i waited for about a minute..all sudden out of the thicket come a doe running 100 mph, and was heading straight for me, when it got about 20 feet from me i was like OHHH LAWD!!! so i jumped to the right, and it leaped to her right and missed me by a few feet, then it snorted therfore the buck never came out.

I have called 2 bucks that I know of both about 30 yds, and killed both, might have called more up and not known it.

About 5 yards. I wasn't trying to see how close I could get him, it was so thick I had no choice but wait until he came out of the thicket.

sdk, I guess I'm just not very good at calling. The only buck that I am sure that I called in was a small buck, he got to about 10 yards away, I was using the can. He is the only deer my wife has ever killed.

had one in about 5 yards and still could not get a clean shot with my bow, but I still consider it one of my most enjoyable hunts

A couple of years ago, I was on my way back to the truck when I saw a young buck slippin through the woods. I stalked up to about 60 yds from the last place I had seen him and hit the grunt call. He was still there and here he came. I was standing behing a tree with a fairly fresh (covered with brown leaves) tree top just on the other side. he (6pt)walked right past me, maybe 5ft. when he got to ten feet away I :smash: but my ML went click instead of boom :bash:

about six-seven years ago i was in a stand hunting the rain got so hard i got down walking back to the cabin, the rain let-up i sat in a big fallen redoak tree, i hit the grunt call two times and a buck grunted back, i would grunt and the buck would grunt, he came running head on to me out of a cane-vine thicket, when i shot him he was about 15 feet in front of me on the ground, he was a nice seven point.

I never called one up that I know of. I was gruntin one mornin and had one talkin back for about 30 mins. but never would come out of a pine thicket. So I started gruntin more aggressively and he just quit. :?:
