Shotgun Scopes

I have a Mossberg Law Enforcment type shotgun that I am converting to a turkey gun complete with a new barrel and choke tube. I was wondering if anyone has used scopes on there shotgun? I like like to know the pros and cons. I am think about a red dot instead of a magnifing scope. Any suggestions?

If you can get your gun to pattern like 2 I know of then a low power scope will help make a clean head shot. 1 of the guns is a Mossberg 3 1/2" and it will put 240 #6 shot pellets in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards and has a 1.75 x 4.5 scope on it. The scope is mounted on the barrel to maintain accuracy when removing for cleaning and to keep from cutting your forehead because of the recoil. I've got a tasco red dot on my Benelli and it helps me a lot. I have trouble focusing on the iron sights so I pretty much had no choice but to go with a scope. With the red dots you don't have to be lined up perfectly to shoot, your head can be off to the side some if need be.

I'm thinking about using over & under scope mounts that way I can still utilize the iron sight if need be.

I've heard that those high mounts can have trouble holding your scope on zero....just a little caution. Never used any, but know that a turkey gun pack quite a whallop and could be tough on any rings.

Yup, I had to tighten the screws on mine several times last year. Wasn't shooting at turkeys though, mostly beavers.

I am firm believer in, one gun one sight, no extra choices in the heat of battle. I've nothing but bad luck with see-thru mounts

go with a red dot or just put fiber optic sight on gun makes huge diff.

razr, just wondering b/c i know a guy up in starkvegas from ark that drives a red gmc 1/2ton. didn't know if it were you or not. I got a lease down in Noxubee Co. 1hr from Svegas. hard turkey hunting though 3yr old cutover and very few trees.
