Same Song, Second Verse

Postby Ironwood » Fri Sep 09, 2011 3:37 am

The hummingbird migration has started. All summer long I had just 2 hummingbirds. Wednesday morning I had 3 hummingbirds. At 1PM I had 8 hummingbirds. Yesterday I'm not real sure how many hummingbirds were visiting my feeders. It's a lot like trying to count a jar full of Mexican Jumping Beans. Anyway that's not what this post is about. :)

Along with the hummingbirds and house finches this is what was visiting my feeders yesterday!

That's only the second Baltimore Oriole I've seen since we moved here in 1976. I've never seen one at the hummingbird feeders. I suppose the hot dry weather we've are having has the birds going for the sugar water. I'm sure there's very little of their natural foods available for them on their trip south.

Cool. I get swarmed by hummers everytime I walk past the feeder.
I know just enough to be dangerous.

Thank you BigErn. Glad you like the photo.

EddyBo, Yeah they just have to come up close and check you out. They get so close the wind from their wings ruffles my hair sometimes . What a noise they make, the hum, squealing, and cackling. :)

Oh yeah, the Oriole came back today. :) The hummers don't like it either.
