2005-12-21238 viewsSome may say luck but I spent enough time on Corp land to to figure out where these deer are moving. I killed him in the same area as 8pt on 12-20-05 (200 yards away) in a different "funnel" where scrape line intersected a few deer trails. I believe I saw him while scouting for ducks/deer almost where I killed him on one of the deers trails that met up in the "funnel". Set up around 11:00am and he came feeding down the trail (the one I saw him on during scouting) around 2:40 when I dropped him at 30 yards.

2005-12-20263 viewsThis 8 point was taken off of Corp of Engineer Land. I\'d found a scrape line and a few rubs in this area and kept checkin up on them and hunting it while trying to find the ideal spot to get in a tree. I kept hunting while trying to find better spots. I had finally found where his line intersected a few other deer trails in a "funnel" where I was certain deer would have to travel. Set up there the next day for a full day hunt (10:30-whenever). 3 Does came running through around 2:15. He came trailing at 3.

2005-12-18312 viewsI got in the stand about 2:40 and killed the buck 20 minutes later. I saw a doe coming running as fast as she could from my left and thought I will never get a shot at her, then I saw a buck behind her and 2 other deer behind him. Something told me to grunt once and maybe the buck would stop and look. Yeah right! Well, I grunted and the good Lord made that doe turn directly towards me and run. This was the only way I was going to be able to get a shot off cause it was so thick in the woods and you only have a few shooting lanes. Well, she turned and ran full speed towards me and the other 3 deer followed. I had a split second to react and I shot the buck right int he chest running full speed towards me. He kept running and acted like he hadnt been hit. I was using a .45 cal CVA optima pro. I ran about 50 yrds and stopped by a tree and looked around. I was freaking out till I saw some blood coming from him. Still didnt know if I just wounded him barely or if he was gonna go down. Well the spike behind him kept chasing the doe and the last deer was a spike as well. He stopped and looked up at me and then ran up to the big buck and looked at him as to say, "man you got jacked up"! He then ran chasing the doe. I know one of those little guys wanted to come back and give me a high five because they probably got lucky that night. Ha Ha. It was too cool though and I keep replaying it in my head. He is not the biggest deer in the world, but God blessed me to say the least. I am too proud of him.
