2009-12-19193 viewsKILLING A BIG BUCK is sometimes an accident, but Kelly's repeated success has proven he has an inside track on
how to target mature deer like this 140- class non-typical. All he needed this day was a clearly marked west wind
at 7-10 mph and not to get busted setting up...

2009-11-26185 viewsThis old Tishomingo Co. whitetail came in with a doe at 8:30 a.m. with a 4mph wind at their back. Watching the doe through my field glasses, he suddenly appeared from the thicket with only eyes for her. While reaching for my weapon and getting back on the deer, they both vanished back into the thick cover. After losing sight of them for a few minutes, he reappeared checking the mock scrape allowing me to make the shot at 114 yards. He vanished again. Imagine that!! Eight points with 18 inch inside spread.

2008-11-22309 viewsThis was not the typical opening day hunt. With the temperature below freezing, I questioned hunting the ridge or the foggy creek bottom. The northwest wind made the decision for me. Sometimes a plan just comes together. Special thanks to my Harmon Triple Heat Scent.

2008-01-02679 viewsAfter finding this huge bucks bedding area in early Oct. 2007, I have spent months waiting for him to show. I had the wind where it needed to be blowing, and my harmon "Triple Heat" deer scent done it's Job. This Tishomingh County, typical 8pt. Gross 130 score with a 18" inside spread.

Finding a hunting spot where mature bucks are at least somewhat active in daylight hours is largely a matter of being sure the place hasn't been overhunted. Such hotspots do exist in many regions. Photo by Kelly Lambert
